When and where did your PR career begin?

I started my PR journey as a college freshman with an internship at an awesome agency based in Laguna Beach, CA. At the time I was a fashion design major, had no idea what public relations was about, and was just excited to spend my days sifting through fashion magazines, clipping client placements, and faxing off press releases (yes, faxing). Little did I know I would intern for that same company a few years later with much more PR knowledge as a journalism major. I would later work for that same agency for a number of years, after a stint working for a great agency in New York.

What was your first PR job and how did you get it?

My first PR job was with a fashion-based PR agency in NYC. As a California girl, I had always dreamed of living in New York and moved there right out of college. After a cattle call interview for a junior account executive position where I was able to eye the dozens of other 20-somethings vying for the role, I received the coveted offer as a result of my great internship experience. Looking back, the job was the perfect first job in PR. It was very event driven and felt like PR and marketing bootcamp. To this day, I still reference much of what I learned there.

Where is your dream travel location and why?

I love the charm of European cities. I studied abroad in Paris, have family in Madrid, and have been lucky enough to spend quite a bit of time in Rome. My husband and I have also made exploring Mexico a priority. For me, Guadalajara, Mexico, is the perfect blend of the things I love about both Europe and Mexico. It has the romantic architecture, engaging art, a bustling urban center, charming people, and amazing food. So, anytime I get the itch to jaunt off on a dream vacation, Guadalajara tops the list.

If you were stranded on a desert island and could only bring 3 things, what would they be?

  1. My family. The whole lot of them.
  2. Salt and pepper, maybe some apple cider vinegar.
  3. Loads and loads of sunscreen and shade umbrellas (I burn easily).
